Poising Plate

A simple plate with a slot cut out to support a balance wheel, equipped with levelling screws.

Due to the simplicity of this tool (and the ability to perform balance work on a regular plastic puck anvil if needed), I decided to have a bit of fun with this tool and use the largest surface area to test an idea I had for a surface finish technique. Through repeated, guided hammering I filled the surface with semi-random divots. This followed by electroplating and then sanding the plate to expose the base metal along the ridges produced a kind of tortoise shell two-tone finish that I was very pleased with.

The effect was completed by turning the screws from steel and accenting them with bevels both on the edges and in the center.
