Center Wheel

While my plan is to use the gear train from an ETA 7001 for my watch for the sake of time, I still want the skills to make the gears myself. And so I did, making a center wheel for the 6498 from scratch.

Machining the teeth and the basic shape was a straightforward matter at this point, but the true work came in the finish. Sharp angles and bevels for the gear spokes had to be painstakingly filed by hand, and the same for polishing the teeth of the steel pinion and burnishing the flat surfaces. It was a long process, learning these things, but it was worth it to see it coming together.
